My home's here!

The resolutions are a bit poor. Nevertheless, Google Maps now shows India in good detail.

What's up, dude?

Been to the Mark Knopfler concert yesterday. Believe me the experience was simply mind blowing. Starting with Why Aye Man, Knopfler played tracks from most of Dire Straits' and his solo albums. But my pick of the evening was Local Hero Wild Theme, one of my most favourite Knopfler guitar solos. It was my pick not because he played it the best, but because he played it! I get goose pimples everytime I listen to that track.

I figure you wouldn't be interested in knowing what I have been doing all this time. I have been travelling across the length and breadth of the country for about five months now and am just back from a three week trip to Delhi. I managed to squeeze in a day's trip to the Bharatpur bird sanctuary. Did some good photography there. Ah! I know its been three months since I have posted anything on the photoblog, although I haven't stopped taking photos. With a burgeoning backlog of nice photos I could share, I resolve yet again to update Shutterbug.nu. I hope the Blogger's Clog is gone for sometime now.

Down South

Another day. Another conference presentation. This time it was the picturesque Colombo. Yes, I was in Srilanka for a couple of days last week. And to tell the truth, I enjoyed all things non-business there.

Galadari ViewColombo is like Goa… infact better than Goa. Blue skies, idyllic beaches, nice roads, fast cars, less traffic & population and palm-fringed cityscapes. Srilankan food is excellent. Spicy but not hot, tasty but not strong. And in many ways, similar to Indian dishes. The people are nice and friendly and the culture is very much Indian. So I was at home all the time. Some of the better restaurants are more inviting than swanky ones in Mumbai. You feel completely relaxed when you are inside. The ones near the sea have wonderful views. In fact, there are wonderful views from so many buildings in Colombo.

Work is relaxed in Srilanka, as told by one of the event co-ordinators. She said people get almost a third of a year in holidays! The natural reason is that Srilanka celebrates Srilankan, Indian and Singaporean festivals with equal enthusiasm. Good for the business traveller. Lots of time to relax and chill out. Seems like an ideal holiday destination. And I haven't even talked about adventure & touring.

The Offline days

Ah! So much for being with an Indian Registrar agent! First of all, I am informed after 2 months that my earlier domain renewal was unsuccessful. Even after I renew the domain, the domain remains unpublished for a week. The buggers refuse to believe that the problem is from their side. Atleast my US hosting provider was better off when he informed me about the source of the problem. I owe a big apology to those who have been visiting this site since I last posted. The last month hasn't been good. But here I am back with renewed vigour and enthusiasm to update this weblog.

Here I Am

It's a new world - it's a new start, It's alive with the beating of a young heart. It's a new day - in a new land, And it's waiting for me - Here I Am. While Vignesh enjoys the lyrics, I seem to be living through it. This is the reason for my first and most certainly the last for this month. March may see a flurry of post activity on my blog. BTW, we had an accidental blogger's meet at Kormangala, Bangalore. I met Anand, Shyam, Vignesh and Suresh. Accidental because we all happened to be at the same place at the same time. We had a small talk, none of the usual first-time crap. It was nice and light, but not enough. Anyway, there 's always time for another meet.

Quackery

Ever heard of Iridology? or Phrenology? or Physiognomy? or for that matter Reflexology? They start making sense when you know that they are in the same league as Palmistry, Astrology or Feng Shui. Bang! there you are. You got what I meant?. And how did I get to know this? From this brawl on Anita's blog. On all counts, the views of Madhu seem to match my opinion on the subject.

It seems that there is a whole group of people in the US of A who are skeptic about such beliefs, the Tampa Bay Skeptics!! And then there is James Randi with his $1 million paranormal challenge. There's a World Skeptics Congress and a whole page of links to skeptical sites.
My Views: Skeptics, count me in!!

Keol Thought

To tell the people of tomorrow, more about the people of today. And to reinvent our present world by sharing each other's dreams, aspirations, personal hopes … so that we can address all of this to our faraway descendants. This what the KEO project is all about. Its about telling our story to our great great great … grandchildren. About 50,000 years later. All you have to do is post a message which you feel your descendants should read. They promise to put all messages in the world on non-perishable glass sheets, pack these in a hard shelled satellite and release it into space. The satellite has been programmed to return in about 50,000 years and allow the then humanity to know about their past! Very very exciting thought!
